Utah Tennis Falls to No. 18 UCLA

LOS ANGELES – The Utes set out to the West Coast for weekend matches, and started off against the 18th-ranked UCLA Bruins on Friday afternoon at the Los Angeles Tennis Center. The Utes took the doubles point, but ultimately fell to the Bruins, 6-1.

Doubles play went by quickly, and the Utes secured the point. On court two, the UCLA duo downed Bruno Krenn and Luis Flores 6-2. But on court one, Slava Shainyan and Francisco Bastias earned a 6-2 win over UCLA's Keegan Smith and Max Wild, and on court three, Geronimo Busleiman and Chris Heck took the upper hand against UCLA's Rosco Bellamy and Bryce Pereira, 6-3, to take a 1-0 lead in the match.

During singles play, the Utes put up a fight, but could not secure a win. On court one, Shainyan battled the 10th-ranked singled player in the nation, Keegan Smith, before falling, 7-6 (7-5), 6-2. On court two, UCLA's Baird took the upper hand against Utah's Busleiman 5-7, 6-4, 1-0 (16-14) after a long match. Bastias was also downed on court three, 6-1, 2-6, 6-4. On court four Sam Feit defeated Krenn 6-3, 7-6 (9-7). On courts four and five the Utes were also downed 6-4, 6-2 and 6-3, 6-2 respectively.

The Utes will finish off the weekend with a match against No. 10 USC at 4 p. m. MT at the David X. Marks Tennis Stadium in Los Angeles.
