Arizona Drops Series at Florida State
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Second-ranked Arizona dropped Sunday's rubber match, 2-0, to 15th-ranked Florida State to fall to 14-3 on the season.
The Wildcats outhit Florida State for the third consecutive game, 5-3, drew a trio of walks and had an additional baserunner via an FSU error, but the Wildcats struggled again with runners on, going 1-for-5 with runners in scoring positions, including a pair of inning-ending double plays, a bases-loaded 1-2-3 double play in the second and a first-and-second 5-4-3 double play in the third.
Alyssa Denham (6-3) was strong in the circle, giving up two runs on three hits with four strikeouts and a pair of walks. Florida State manufactured both of its runs against Denham, scoring on a sacrifice squeeze in the second and a fielder's choice in the sixth. Florida State went 1-for-11 on the night with runners on base.
The loss ends Arizona's 10-day Florida trip and brings a close to the nonconference portion of UA's schedule. The Wildcats open Pac-12 play next weekend with a four-game series at eighth-ranked Washington.
