Beavers Fall to No. 5 Oregon
EUGENE, Ore. - The Oregon State softball team fell to No. 5 Oregon, 14-6, in a five-inning decision, Saturday evening.
Sophomore Maia Rader and junior Mariah Mazon made good connections in the top of the first but the Ducks grabbed three-straight outs.
In a rough first inning for the defense, Oregon took a 7-0 lead.
For the first plate appearance of the second inning, sophomore Frankie Hammoude hit her sixth home run of the season. Junior Missy Nunes followed with a home run of her own on the very next pitch. Freshman Grace Messmer and sophomore Ashton Zeiher earned two more hits for the Beavers, each landing on second with their connection.
Oregon took an 8-3 lead with a second-inning home run before OSU combined for three outs in four plays to close the inning.
Hammoude matched the Ducks' single run in the second with another RBI but Oregon finished the third inning with a 12-4 advantage.
The Beavers' hitting did not let up in the fourth inning. Freshman Madison Simon added two runs with her first collegiate home run after Rader notched a base hit for OSU.
Unable to find home in the fifth inning, Oregon State fell to No. 5 Oregon, 14-8.
Home runs from sophomore Frankie Hammoude, junior Missy Nunes, and freshman Madison Simon accounted for over half of the Beavers' runs against the Ducks.
The Beavers will return home to host its first Pac-12 series against California next weekend (Mar. 19-21).
