SEATTLE – The #8 Washington Huskies cruised to an 8-0 run-rule victory over the Portland State Vikings in five innings Saturday. Washington scored three runs in the first and never looked back, ending the game as Megan Vandegrift crossed the plate in the fifth with no outs to trigger the run rule.
The Huskies are 18-2 now with the win, their eighth straight. Washington has shutout six opponents during that winning streak and won four of those games by run rule.
The Huskies would score in bursts, with three runs in the first inning and four in the fifth. Those two big innings were both started by the top of the Washington batting order, which shined all day. Washington's 1-2-3-4 hitters all had multiple hits in the game. Sis Bates, Baylee Klingler, Sami Reynolds, and Morganne Flores went a combined 8-for-12 with six runs scored and six driven in. Only Flores did not score multiple runs of that quartet: she drove in three. All four of those Huskies had doubles as well.
Kelley Lynch and Sarah Willis combined for five shutout innings in the circle. Lynch threw the first three innings, earning the win. Willis finished out the final two innings, allowing just one baserunner and striking out two.
