Emery Herman Leads Arizona to Victory vs. Colorado

TUCSON, Ariz. -- Arizona Volleyball won its seventh straight home match, completing the weekend sweep of Colorado with a four-set victory (26-24, 21-25, 25-19, 25-19) on Sunday afternoon at McKale Center.

Arizona was led by its defense and a monster match from freshman setter Emery Herman, who finished two blocks shy of a triple-double. Herman led the Wildcats in assists (46), digs (16), blocks (8 - career-high) and aces (2) in her best match yet in her career.

Defensively, the Wildcats put up 15 blocks, their most since recording 16 vs. West Virginia on Sept. 7, 2019 and most in a Pac-12 match since their 16 at California on Nov. 1, 2015. Herman, whose career high entering Sunday was four (set on Friday vs. Colorado) led the way with eight while Merle Weidt finished with a season-high seven. Zyonna Fellows added five blocks and Jaelyn Hodge had four.

In the back row, UA put up 73 digs in the match, its most of the season and most in a four-set match since Nov. 24, 2019 (77). Herman led the Cats with 16 while Paige Whipple had 15 and Kamaile Hiapo posted 13.

Arizona held Colorado to a .152 hitting percentage in the match.

Offensively, the Cats put up 58 kills on .223 hitting, led by Sofia Maldonado Diaz's 17 kills on an efficient .317 hitting. Hodge set her career high with 14 kills and Whipple (11) and Weidt (10) also finished in double digits.

The Wildcats improved to 7-9 with the victory and improved to a perfect 7-0 over their last seven home matches. Colorado dropped to 5-9 following the weekend sweep. Arizona returns to the road next weekend when it faces California on March 19 and 21 in Berkeley.
