Box Score

SEATTLE – The #8 Washington Huskies finished off an undefeated weekend with a 5-2 win over the Portland State Vikings on a rainy Sunday. Washington scored three runs in the first, holding the lead all game long.

This was the final non-conference game of the year for Washington. The Huskies will enter Pac-12 play with a 20-2 record and a ten-game win streak.

The Huskies waited for pitches to hit all game long, drawing seven walks in the game. Nine times the Huskies worked their way to three-ball counts. Meanwhile, Washington's pitchers did not allow a walk in the game.

It was a team affair offensively, with all five runs scored by different players and four Huskies recording RBI. Morganne Flores was the only Husky with multiple RBI, driving in two on a first-inning double. Jenn Cummings hit her first-ever collegiate home run.

Pat Moore started the game, retiring the first seven batters she faced. Moore would throw three innings while Brooke Nelson came in for the final four. Nelson allowed back-to-back doubles in the fifth, then retired the next nine batters she faced to close out the game.

  • First Inning: Washington chased Portland State's starter after just five batters, drawing three walks and scoring two runs on Flores' ringing double.
  • Third Inning: The wet field played to Portland State's advantage in the third. Two infield singles looked to be playable balls before dying in the wet dirt, allowing an earlier Viking to score. The Huskies pushed the lead back to three runs with a sac fly by Bates, making it 4-1.
  • Fifth Inning: In her first-ever at-bat at Husky Softball Stadium, Cummings went yard, sending a solo shot well over the left-center wall for a 5-2 lead after Portland State chipped in a run in the top half.
  • Flores (1x3, R, 2B, 2 RBI) has driven in six runs in four games this weekend.
  • Flores is on a five-game hit streak, with hits in nine of her last ten.
  • Sis Bates (1x2, R, RBI, 2 BB, 2 SB) matched her career high with her 10th steal of the season.
  • Bates has six steals in her last five games, including steals in three straight games.
  • Bates ties Michelle Church for fifth in Washington history in hits with today's single.
  • Sami Reynolds (1x3, HBP) played in her 100th game as a Husky, all starts.
  • In her last four starts, Moore (3.0 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 2 K) has allowed three total runs.
  • Cummings (1x1, HR) has reached safely in four of the five games she has a plate appearance.

Washington hosts Arizona in the start of Pac-12 play next, with game one of that four-game series set for Friday, March 19 at 6:00 pm on ESPNU.
