No. 12 USC Women's Soccer Falls 3-2 in Overtime at Colorado
BOULDER, Colo. – The No. 12 USC women's soccer team scored two early goals, but couldn't hold the lead on the road at Colorado as the Buffaloes scored the golden goal in the 109th minute to win 3-2.
The Trojans move to 3-3 overall and 2-3 in Pac-12 play with the loss. Colorado moves to 5-3-1, 2-2-1 on the year.
USC scored twice in the first 15 minutes of play, getting a goal off a corner from Tara McKeown in the 11th minute and then Penelope Hocking made it a 2-0 game as she finished a cross from Madeline Vergura for her fourth goal of the year. Vergura assisted both first half goals for the Trojans.
Colorado would cut the deficit in half just about seven minutes after Hocking's goal, as Libby Geraghty cleaned up her own rebound to make it 2-1. The Buffaloes would tie the game in the 56th minute on a penalty kick from Shanade Hopcroft.
The Trojans drew a PK of their own in overtime, but it was saved by Colorado keeper Dani Hansen.
With just over a minute left to play in the final overtime, Colorado's Shyra James found the back of the net for the winner.
11' – USC: Tara McKeown (assisted by Madeline Vergura) – Vergura sent a corner kick in from the left side and McKeown just flicked it over the Colorado goalkeeper with one touch.
14' – USC: Penelope Hocking (assisted by Madeline Vergura, Savannah DeMelo) – DeMelo sent a ball out wide to Vergura, who took one touch and sent a cross in from the right to a streaking Hocking, who then hit it in off of her midsection.

109' – CU: Shyra James (assisted by Lawson Willis) – Willis found James in the area and James sent home a low shot inside the left post.
The Trojans return to Southern California for a non-conference matchup with No. 3 UCLA later this week.
