Ducks Roll In Second-Ever Home Match

Mar 16, 2021

EUGENE, Ore. – For just the second time in the eight-year history of the Oregon Beach Volleyball program, the Ducks hosted a match at Amazon Park and rolled to a 5-0 victory over Corban to move to 2-2 on the year.

"It was so exciting for us today," said associate head coach Janice Harrer. "Our girls were just tickled to be out here on our home turf – with some sunshine – and just feeling like they were supported by having a venue at home, and they were just ready to play."

How It Happened: The Ducks controlled the match from start to finish on a beautiful day in South Eugene, going up 2-0 right off the bat with straight-set wins in the first two matches. Ashley Schroeder and Bea Wetton got off to a dominant start in their opening set before winning comfortably in set two, 21-4, 21-14 at the No. 5 spot. Savannah Siegrist and Delaney Hopen followed shortly after with a  21-13, 22-20 win at the No. 3 spot to make it 2-0, Ducks.

Oregon continued its dominance in the second round of matches, putting up the third point to clinch the match. Vivian Donovan and Madelyn LaFollette controlled their match the whole way at the No. 2 position in the lineup, giving the Ducks a 3-0 lead with a 21-13, 21-11 win. Abby Plevin and Batia Rotshtein wrapped up the non-counting match, 21-19, 21-12, shortly after.

Anastasia Lima and Carly Wallace put up the fourth point of the match by cruising to a win at the No. 1 spot. After a competitive first set that was tied 14-14 at one point, they closed the opening game strong and dominated the second in a 21-17, 21-8 win.

Zoe Almanza and Josie Cole went the distance in their match at the No. 4 spot to finish off the shutout, winning 21-17, 19-21, 15-8. The pair controlled the first set and was up 8-6 in set two before the Corban pair scored 11 of the next 14 points to take a 17-11 lead. Almanza and Cole fended off four straight match points and cut it to 20-19 before losing the set. They never trailed in the deciding set, winning 15-8.
