SEATTLE - For the third time this season, the Husky volleyball team took two of the three Pac-12 weekly honors today, as Lauren Sanders won Defensive Player of the Week and Madi Endsley was named Freshman of the Week for the third time.
The Huskies posted a 3-2 win followed by a straight set sweep over USC last Friday and Sunday at Alaska Airlines Arena. It was UW's first sweep of the season series with the Trojans since 2014.
With Sanders earning her first Player of the Week of the season, six different Huskies have now earned at least one Player of the Week honor this season.
Sanders posted 15 blocks last week, including 10 in the 3-0 win alone. That was the second-most by a Husky in a three set match in the 25-point era dating to 2008. Sanders averaged 1.88 blocks per set for the weekend and now leads the Pac-12 with 1.33 per set for the season. She also moved up into a tie for fourth-place on the Husky career blocks list, tied with Bianca Rowland with 492.
Endsley led the Huskies in kills last week, averaging 3.38 per set and hitting .333. In the five set win on Friday, she set a new career-high with 18 kills, hitting .366. In Sunday's sweep, she returned to the serving rotation and hit four aces to go with nine kills. Her three Freshman of the Week honors are most by a Husky since Krista Vansant also won three in 2011.
The No. 8 Huskies now have a crucial rivalry week match-up against No. 14 Washington State this Friday and Sunday as the two teams currently lead the Pac-12. The first match will be 5 p.m. in Pullman on Friday and the Sunday match is back in Seattle at 2 p.m.
