Five Sun Devils Competing at Symetra Tour Event
TEMPE, Ariz. - Five Sun Devils are set to compete at the Carlisle Arizona Women's Golf Classic, a Symetra Tour event running March 18-21 in Mesa, Arizona.
A total of 132 players will take on the challenge that Longbow Golf Club presents starting Thursday with the first round of the inaugural Carlisle Arizona Women's Golf Classic.
Returning to the site of their come-from-behind victory in the Clover Cup, current Sun Devils Olivia Mehaffey and Ashley Menne will take advantage of the opportunity to play in a professional event, receiving sponsor invites allowing them to participate as amateurs. They are two of only three amateurs selected to play in this prestigious tournament.
"I'm really excited to play a professional event in Arizona," Mehaffey mentioned. "It is very special to represent Arizona State at home this week and I can't wait. I am very grateful for this opportunity to tee it up with the pros again."
"I am truly grateful to have this wonderful opportunity to play in my first Symetra Tour event," Menne remarked. "It's really special that it's here in AZ on a course I have played since I was a junior golfer. I am super excited for this week and cannot wait to tee it up with some amazing golfers."
Joining them at Longbow Golf Club will be several familiar faces and successful LPGA/Symetra Tour veterans, as the Sun Devil Women's Golf program will also be represented by Roberta Liti, Giulia Molinaro, and Louise Stahle.
Coming off a historic final round at the Clover Cup hosted at the same course she will play this weekend, Olivia Mehaffey has momentum heading into another professional appearance.
"It was great to play before the Symetra event, definitely learned some things about the course and gained some confidence to take into this week," Mehaffey added.
Mehaffey is joined by teammate Ashley Menne, who will make her professional debut. No stranger to pressure moments and big tournaments, Menne is familar with the course having had success at several junior events there in the past. She will gain valuable experience competing in a field some of the world's top female talent.
That field includes Louise Stahle (2004-05), who turned in one of the greatest season in Arizona State Women's Golf history. The 2005 National Player of the Year finished the season ranked as the consensus No. 1 golfer in the nation, catching the eye of the professional level. She would turn pro after just one season in Tempe and made nearly $250,000 on the LPGA Tour. Stahle is part of a featured group with Krystal Quihuis and Allison Emrey.
Giulia Molinaro (2009-13) will also compete in the event, as the former All-American and Pac-12 Golfer of the Year has made a name for herself at this level. She has 14 career Top-10 finishes on the Symetra Tour, splitting time with occasional appearances at LPGA events.
Olivia Mehaffey reunites with fellow 2017 National Champion Roberta Liti (2015-18), who has made a smooth transition to the Symetra Tour. Only in her third season as a pro, Liti was able to earn her first Top-10 finish as a pro at the Symetra Classic back in October of 2020. Liti and Molinaro will be paired together on the first day.
The par 72, 6,439 yard set up and four-day event is schedule for 72 holes. Here is how the five Sun Devils will tee-off at Longbow Golf Club tomorrow (All Times MST):
