Huskies Host Boeing Apple Cup Series Matchup
SEATTLE - The #23 Washington Huskies stay at home for a one-game week, hosting the Washington State Cougars in another installment of the Boeing Apple Cup Series. This game will not count in the Pac-12 standings, serving as a non-conference game. Washington is 5-1-2 overall and 2-1-2 in the Pac-12 entering this week, sitting fourth in the conference standings through three weeks of Pac-12 play.
HON-YATES BUNCHES OF POINTS
Summer Yates had a two-assist game against #24 Cal. That was her eighth career multi-point game and second multi-assist game. Yates has two multi-point games this year: she also scored a brace against Colorado. The Huskies are undefeated in games which Yates has had multiple points in her career. In games Yates has recorded a point, the Huskies are 13-2-0.
SIMI COMES UP CLUTCH
Sianna Siemonsma scored the gamewinner against #24 Cal for her first goal of the season. Siemonsma has now scored at least one goal all four years of her career and has recorded at least one assist in three straight seasons. Siemonsma also created the pressure that led to the own-goal gamewinner against Seattle U earlier this year.
Ameera Hussen scored against #24 Cal, setting a new career high in goals and points this season. Five of Hussen's last seven career goals have come against Pac-12 opponents, including two of her three goals this year.
DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS
Washington still has not allowed more than one goal in a game this year, with four total goals allowed. This is the farthest into a season that the Huskies have gone without allowing multiple goals in a game since 2015, when they did not do so until the ninth game. Washington's 5-1-2 start is also its best since starting 7-1-0 in 2015.
Washington has trailed for 70 total minutes this season and did not face a deficit until last weekend, when Stanford scored in the 79th minute. Only once has Washington faced a deficit in the first half: when #24 Cal scored in the sixth minute. Washington has held a lead in six of its eight games: only in the 0-0 tie with Colorado and 0-1 loss to #21 Stanford have the Huskies not lead at some point.
SHOOT YOUR SHOT
The Huskies have outshot the opposition in seven of their eight games, with only Arizona State outshooting the Huskies, 18-16. Washington has double-digit shots in seven games and 15+ shots in six games. Only two opponents, Arizona State (18 shots) and #24 Cal (10 shots) have reached the double-digit shot mark.
