SEATTLE – A goal with just 18 seconds remaining won the game for the #23 Washington Huskies, giving the Huskies a 2-1 win over the Washington State Cougars in the Boeing Apple Cup Series match. Karlee Stueckle's shot from the top of the box trickled through the keeper's fingers to put the Huskies back on top for good in a game that Washington never trailed.

The win moves Washington's record to 6-1-2 on the season. This game did not count in the Pac-12 standings, meaning the Huskies remain at 2-1-2 in Pac-12 play. The Huskies have now won back-to-back games against Washington State for the first time since 1996 and 1997.

Washington has now won back-to-back games in the final ten minutes, beating Cal with a goal in the 83rd before today's winner in the 90th. Washington has scored four goals in the 80th minute or later this year and has now outscored the opposition 9-2 in the second half of games. Only Stanford and Washington State have scored goals in the second half against the Huskies so far.

Ruby Hellstrom also scored in the game, putting Washington up 1-0 just six minutes into the game and giving Hellstrom goals in back-to-back games. Summer Yates had an assist on Hellstrom's goal and now has three assists in her last two games. Caeley Goldstein made her first collegiate start in goal for the Huskies and earned the win. Olivia Van der Jagt had three shots for the Huskies, joining Stueckle, who had two, as the only players on either team to record multiple shots in the game.

The Huskies controlled the game throughout, once again flexing their defensive muscle and allowing only one shot on goal all game long. Washington outshot Washington State 12-6 overall and 6-1 on shots on goal. Washington had a number of dangerous free kicks throughout the game to keep the Cougars on their heels. The Huskies only allowed two shots in the final 30 minutes and just one in the final 15.

  • 90' | With 18 seconds left, Stueckle's hard shot from high in the box hit the keeper in the mitts, only to roll through her hands into the net at the near post.

 NOTES
  • Yates has assists in back-to-back games for the first time in her career.
  • Hellstrom has scored three goals in the last five games, all against Pac-12 opponents.
