Trio of Utes Wrap Up Friday's Action At NCAA Championships
GREENSBORO, N.C. – A pair of Ute swimmers got their NCAA Championship action underway on Friday in the 100 back, while Emma Ruchala closed out her season on the 3-meter boards at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
Emma Broome and Audrey Reimer got the day started where Broome had a phenomenal finish in her NCAA debut, placing 27th overall. Broome finished with a time of 52.98 seconds in her 100 back showing. Reimer, who will compete in the 100 back and 200 back at the national championships, placed 51st with a time of 53.92 seconds in her debut.
"We had a great start to the swimming side of the meet this morning," said Utah assistant swim coach Jos Smith. "It was Emma and Audrey's first time racing at the NCAA meet and I thought they handled it well. It was the second time Emma has been under the 53-second barrier in the 100 Back and we couldn't be prouder of how she closed out her senior season. We are excited to see Audrey get back out there tomorrow in the 200 back!"
Over on the diving boards, Ruchala closed out her season by competing on her second event of the NCAA Championships. She finished the competition on the 3m in 38th place overall with a score of 255.80.
"Watching Emma today was one of the more rewarding days as a coach that I've had," said head diving coach Richard Marschner. "Emma has dedicated herself to the sport and our team for four years and I love seeing it pay off for her. This is an extremely difficult meet to compete at and I couldn't be prouder of her and how she handled this stressful event."
Reimer will wrap up NCAA Championship action in the 200 back tomorrow morning with prelims for the day beginning at 8 a.m. MT. Live results for the NCAA Championships will be available here, while all sessions, including prelims and finals, will be streamed on ESPN3.
