USC Women's Golf In Third After Liz Murphey First Round

Senior Allisen Corpuz fired a 2-under 70 – her 11th round under par this season – while senior Amelia Garvey had a par round to lead No. 7 USC into third place after the first round of the Liz Murphey Collegiate at the University of Georgia G.C. in Athens, Ga., on Friday (March 19).
 
The Trojans combined for a 4-over 292, four back of first place LSU and two behind second-place Arkansas. Nine teams are within eight shots of first place.
 
Corpuz lowered her season stroke average to 70.23 with her first-round 70, which put her into a tie for fifth in the 90-woman field. The senior, who has two wins and four top 4s to start the season, had five birdies on the day, three during a 2-under back 9.
 
Garvey is tied for 15th following her 72, which saw her go 1-under on the back, including birdies on 11 and 12. It's her fifth round of par or better this year, all in her last six rounds.
 
Senior Alyaa Abdulghany is tied for 26th following her 2-over 74, sophomore Alexa Melton, in her debut as a Trojan starter, is tied for 43rd at 3-over 75 while freshman Brianna Navarrosa is tied for 57th following her 77.
