ASU Suffers First Conference Loss in 4-1 Defeat to #26 Stanford

Mar 20, 2021

STANFORD,  Calif. - The 25th-ranked Sun Devils women's tennis team (9-4, 3-1 Pac. 12) fell 4-1 to No. 26 Stanford (6-0, 3-0 Pac-12) Friday afternoon in Stanford, Calif. Freshman Giulia Morlet earned ASU's lone point with a two-set victory at singles four.

"It was a tough match today which was much closer than the 4-1 score shoes," head coach Sheila McInerney said. "I thought we competed very well throughout the lineup and were right there in every match. Stanford doesn't give you an inch, which is the sign of a good team."

The loss is ASU's first in conference play, the team starting the year with three consecutive wins over Oregon, No. 38 Washington State, and Washington. The Sun Devils return to the courts Saturday to play California at noon MST.
