Blockburger Breaks Arizona 400m Freshman Record at Willie Williams

TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona Track and Field wrapped up their outdoor season opener on Saturday at the Willie Williams Classic. The highlight of the day was Johnnie Blockburger clocking 45.83 in the 400m dash, giving him the fifth-best time in school history and the Arizona freshman record, previously held by teammate Umajesty Williams. 

Highlights
Blockburger's 400m time is currently the best in the country and he is followed closely by Umajesty Williams who placed second with a PR of 45.95, which is sixth on Arizona's all-time list. The pair currently have the two best times in the country.

On the women's side, Shannon Meisberger picked up a PR of 53.11 in the 400m, finishing second and placing her ninth in the school record book.

Trevor Volpe won the men's 100m dash with a PR time of 10.59. The Wildcats swept the top three spots with Trent Stimac running a PR of 10.66 in second and Tayvian Cunningham clocking 10.67 in third.

Tanner Hagstrom finished third in the men's 800m, picking up a PR of 1:51.05. Camron Herron followed closely in fourth with a time of 1:52.31.

Alexa Porpaczy cleared a big PR of 1.83m (6-0) in the women's high jump to place second and give her the second-best mark in the country. Karla Teran placed third with a mark of 1.78m (5-10) followed by Diana Ramos in fourth with 1.73m (5-8) and Skylar Sieben in fifth with a PR of 1.68m (5-6).

Skylar Sieben clocked a PR of 14.36 in the 100m hurdles to win her heat and finish seventh overall. Ajaysha Lewis came in right behind her to place second in the heat and tenth overall.

Jakob Chamberlin picked up his second PR of the weekend in the shot put with a throw of 17.11m (56-1.75) to place fourth.

"I feel great about the performances," said Head Coach Fred Harvey. "Looking at how the sprinters ran, that had to be the highlight. I'm very pleased with the performances there. I thought we had a really good weekend in the field events as well, I thought those guys competed exceptionally well. I think the whole idea of getting the show on the road was so rewarding to everyone."
