Cal Drops 14-9 Decision At Oregon

Nikki Zaccaro had a team-high five points on three goals and two assists in a 14-9 loss at Oregon on Saturday.

EUGENE – Cal (1-5, 0-3 Pac-12) began a three-game road trip with a 14-9 loss at Oregon (1-4, 1-0 Pac-12) in a Pac-12 contest Saturday at Papé Field. Nikki Zaccaro paced Cal with five points on three goals and two assists while Marisa Kuberra had four points on three goals and one assist in a game the Golden Bears led just once when Kuberra scored an unassisted goal at the 27:44 mark of the first half to open the game's scoring.

Oregon would score the next three goals to go ahead 3-1 with three different players – Morgan McCarthy (23:02), Lindsay Clarke (20:45) and Hanna Hilcoff (20:37) – getting unassisted goals of their own.

Cal answered back with a pair of goals to tie the score at 3-3 when Kuberra assisted on a Catherine Roxas score with 18:45 to go and Zaccaro tallied the first of her three goals on an assist by Quinnlyn Mason with 15:56 to go before the break.

But the Ducks would score the next three goals on Shonley Wallace's tally assisted by Olivia Mannon with 12:12 remaining in the first half and a pair of unassisted goals by Hilcoff at 9:39 and 7:48.
Kuberra got her second unassisted goal of the half with 6:29 remaining before Katie Collins finished the first-half scoring for the Ducks by registering an unassisted goal with 0:26 to go to give Oregon a 7-4 lead at the break.

Cal scored two of the first three goals of the second half to cut the Oregon lead to 8-6 with 19:56 remaining after Olivia Dey scored on an assist by Zaccaro at 28:48 before Zaccaro's second goal of the game at the 19:56 mark.

But Oregon would score four of the next five goals and the Bears would get no closer the remainder of the way.

Zaccaro connected for her third and final goal at 11:01 on an assist by Megan Mix and assisted on Kuberra's third and final score at 3:16. The two goals sandwiched Mix's lone goal of the contest unassisted with 6:55 to go.

Cal next visits Colorado (2-3, 0-1 Pac-12) in a game to be televised live by the Pac-12 Networks on Monday (2 pm MT/1 pm PT).
