No. 1 USC Beach Volleyball Crashes Waves With 4-1 Win
MALIBU, Calif. – The No. 1-ranked USC beach volleyball team (10-0) defeated No. 8 Pepperdine (2-7) by a 4-1 count at the Pepperdine Beach Volleyball Courts on Sunday, March 21. The Women of Troy stayed undefeated on the season and secured the program's sixth double-digit winning streak of all-time.
The Trojans improved to 19-13 (.594) in all-time meetings with Pepperdine and have now won seven straight duals against the Waves; the longest streak for either team in the series' history. USC also moved to 14-7 all-time in matches played in Malibu.
USC earned the first dual point with a win at the No. 4 position where graduate Joy Dennis and freshman Delaynie Maple won their eighth straight match on a 21-15, 21-13 victory against Mary Sinclair and Calista Wright. Pepperdine evened the dual with a win at the second court where Brook Bauer and Carly Skjodt defeated graduates Hailey Harward and Julia Scoles, 21-13, 21-19.
The Trojans went in front again with a win at the fifth position where twin sophomores Audrey Nourse and Nicole Nourse racked up their 18th consecutive victory to improve to 10-0 on the season. They defeated Peyton Lewis and Gracie Pederson, 21-18, 21-10.
The reigning Pac-12 Pair of the Week delivered the clinching point from the top court where junior Tina Graudina and senior Sammy Slaterdefeated Melanie Paul and Simone Priebe, 21-17, 21-16, to improve to 10-0 on the year. The fourth Trojan point was added to the board when senior Haley Hallgren and freshman Megan Kraft wrapped up a 21-15, 21-13 win over Alexis Filippone and Sutton Macatvish at the No. 3 position for their eighth win of the season.
In exhibition action, senior Paige Dreeuws and junior Mollie Ebertin split sets with Cameron Baklenko and Kristine Briede. The Waves won the first set, 21-16, and the Trojans won the second, 21-12.
The Trojans hit the road for their first non-Southern California matches of the spring next week. USC heads to Tucson, Ariz., for the Pac-12 South Invitational hosted by the Wildcats. The Women of Troy will take on Oregon (12:45 p.m. PT) and Utah (7 p.m. PT) on Saturday (March 27). Both duals will be shown live on the Pac-12 Networks.
