UW Swept by USC in Pac-12 Opening Series

Seattle -- The Washington baseball team (8-9, 0-3) fell to the USC Trojans (9-6, 3-0) for the third straight day, concluding a three-game sweep to open up Pac-12 play. 

The Trojans pushed across four runs in the first inning and would use that cushion for the rest of the afternoon. UW starter David Rhodes would make it out of the first inning, but only faced one batter in the second. 

Stu Flesland III came in from the bullpen and gave the Huskies 3.2 innings of relief, giving up two runs on four hits. He was replaced by Adam Bloebaum, who would throw 3.1 innings and give up two runs on three hits. 

A solo home run in the fifth and RBI single in the sixth gave USC a 6-0 lead in the game. In the bottom half of the sixth, UW rallied to cut into the deficit. After a Noah Hsue walk and Will Simpson single, Dalton Chandler doubled into left-center field to bring home Hsue. With runners on second and third, Cole Miller came in as a pinch-hitter and singled up the middle to score Simpson and Chandler and make it a 6-3 game. 

That would be it for the Huskies, as the Trojan bullpen kept them at bay for the rest of the game. USC would add another run in the seventh and then pile on four more in the ninth to push the score to 11-3.

Washington is back in action on Tuesday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. when it travels to face Gonzaga in a midweek game.

• With his seventh inning single, Braiden Ward extended his on-base streak to all 17 games this season.
• Dalton Chandler had his third multi-hit game in his last four outings and is riding a six-game hitting streak.
• Will Simpson and Chandler each had back-to-back multi-hit games on Saturday and Sunday.
