THIS WEEK -- UCLA (9-4), ranked No. 6 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) poll, will travel to play at Stanford (1-8) on March 23 (televised on Pac-12 Network) and 24 after taking a break for Winter Quarter exams. It will be the first of five straight road matches.

In their most recent action, the Bruins split a pair of matches against Pepperdine. The Waves prevailed 3-1 in Malibu (24-26, 25-21, 25-23, 25-22) on March 13 while racking up a Bruin opponent-best 14.0 blocks after UCLA defeated the Waves (3/11) in five-sets (23-25, 25-12, 22-25, 25-14, 15-10) in Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom while serving up a season-best 13 aces and compiling a season-best 16.0 total blocks. UCLA has won seven of its last nine matches and had a four-match win streak stopped in its last contest at Pepperdine (3/13).

All 2021 home matches are scheduled for Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom. At the current time, no fans will be present for UCLA home matches.

LAST MEETING -- UCLA posted a pair of 3-1 victories over Stanford earlier this season in Los Angeles (Mar 6.: 21-25, 25-18, 25-12, 25-19; Mar. 5: 23-25, 25-15, 25-13, 25-21). For the two matches, UCLA outhit Stanford .393 to .128; out aced the Cardinal 13-6 and out blocked Stanford 11.0-8.5. Cole Ketrzynski had 32 kills in the matches. He hit .500 with 17 kills in the March 6 win. Merrick McHenry delivered 27 kills and 9 blocks in the pair of contests. Ian Parish had a season-high 8 kills and 2 aces in the March 5 win over the Cardinal. 

NOTES -- Cole Ketrzynski has reached double-digits in kills in all 10 matches he has played in this sesaon ... he has recorded at least one ace in 8 matches--not Stanford (3/6), not Pepperdine (3/13) ... his 0.44 aces/set average to begin the week ranked 19th in the NCAA and 5th in MPSF ... he had a career-best five aces vs. Concordia (2/25) after having a total of four for all of the 2020 season ... Ketrzynski was named Molten/MPSF Offensive Player of the Week and Off the Block National Opposite of the Week after totaling 18 kills (2/18) and 21 kills (2/20) in a pair of wins at USC ...  Sam Kobrine has at least 40 set assists in eight matches ... had 7 kills, 6 digs and 43 set assists in win over Pepp (3/11) ... credited with back-to-back 10 dig matches against Stanford and was named the Molten/MPSF Defensive Player of the Week (3/8) ...  had 41 set assists vs. CUI (3/2) as UCLA hit a season-best .554 ... he posted a career-high 49 set assists in win over Stanford (3/5) ... Kobrine remains the only player in the nation to have registered a triple-double in 2021 -- vs. USC (2/13) 14 kills, 15 assists and 10 digs ... Merrick McHenry posted double-digit kills in each of the last 5 matches with a best of 17 kills (3/5) vs. Stanford and was named Molten/MPSF Offensive Player of the Week (3/8) ... had 10 kills with no errors on 12 swings vs. CUI (3/2) for a .833 percentage ... McHenry began the week ranked 1st in MPSF and 10th in NCAA in hitting % at .448 ... Ethan Champlin leads team with 20 aces ... fired off three aces vs. the Waves (3/11) and had season-high five aces in win over Stanford (3/6) ... tied his career-high with 13 kills at USC (2/20) while hitting .400 ...  Austin Matautia had a career-best 6 aces in win over Pepperdine (3/11) ... had 9 kills at Concordia (2/27) and had career-best 5 blocks in (2/20) win at USC .... Matautia hit .400, with 8 kills, in win at BYU ...  Cole Pender had 11 digs in last win over Stanford (3/6), one shy of his career best ... also had 11 in 2021 opener against GCU ... Ian Parish had career-highs of 2 block solos and 7 block assists in win over Pepp (3/11) ... he totaled season-bests of 2 aces and 8 kills in win over Stanford (3/5) ... UCLA in the NCAA rankings --- Hitting % No. 9 .303 / Opponent Hitting % No. 8 .218, after holding six opponents under .200 for a match.

 AT HOME -- The Bruins have posted a 6-1 home record in 2021 ... UCLA had an eight-match Pauley Pavilion win streak cancelled with the USC loss (2/13/21) ... Over the past five-plus seasons, UCLA is 46-6 in matches played in Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom (2016: 10-1--lost to UCI, 2017: 8-1--CSUN, 2018: 13-2--Long Beach 2xs, 2019: 7-1--Long Beach; 2020: 2-0; 2021: 6-1--USC).

ON THE ROAD -- UCLA is 3-3 on the road after sweeping USC, splitting a pair of matches at BYU and dropping contests at CUI and Pepperdine.

MPSF -- Due to the possibility of an unbalanced number of league matches played this year, conference wins (NOT win percentage), will be the first criteria looked at to determine MPSF Tournament seeding (Apr. 22-24 at BYU). Conference win percentage will be the first tiebreaker.
