Cal Dropped By No. 16 Oregon

EUGENE, Ore. – Lydia Grote recorded a match best 13 kills for California in a 17-25, 17-25, 17-25 loss to No. 16 Oregon Friday afternoon at Matthew Knight Arena.

Grote recorded her ninth double-digit kill outing of the season and fifth in the last seven matches.

Cal (1-18) got four kills apiece from Bella Bergmark and Makana Meyer.

Oregon (12-3) was led by Brooke Nuneviller with eight kills and 12 digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bears fell behind early in the first frame after Oregon went on a 6-1 run to take a lead at 17-8. Cal stopped the run with a Grote kill and pulled within five at 21-16, but the Ducks scored four of the last five points to take the opening set.

After a second set where Oregon jumped out to an advantage early and didn't look back, the Bears battled in the third. Grote and Katarina Pantovic recorded back-to-back kills to tie the third set, 5-5. Cal used a run of three straight to take the lead at 12-11, and Grote tied the score at 15 on her 13th kill of the match.

Oregon scored the next four points from there to take a lead and put away the set and the match, 3-0.

The Bears wrap up action in Eugene on Sunday, March 28 with first serve set for 12 noon at Matthew Knight Arena.
