“Our Stories: Tara VanDerveer, McKinley Wright IV and a COVID-19 Year in Review,” presented by Pacific Premier Bank, debuts Sunday at 7 p.m. PT / 8 p.m. MT following the conclusion of the No. 11 UCLA and USC baseball game
SAN FRANCISCO - This Sunday, March 28, Pac-12 Networks is highlighting a year unlike any other, filled with milestones and moments of perseverance, during “Our Stories: Tara VanDerveer, McKinley Wright IV, and a COVID-19 Year in Review,” presented by Pacific Premier Bank, airing at 7 p.m. PT / 8 p.m. MT on Pac-12 Network.
Pac-12 Networks brings fans behind the scenes of Stanford’s historic victory against Pacific on December 15, which gave Tara VanDerveer her 1,099th career victory to become the winningest coach in NCAA Division I women’s basketball history. Hear from the players that have benefitted from VanDerveer’s coaching and the woman of the hour herself as they describe the monumental milestone and the road they all took to get there, together.
Colorado men’s basketball senior McKinley Wright IV looks ahead to his future and opens up about his formative past. The all-time assists leader for Colorado men’s basketball describes the difficult path that led him to Boulder, from his unlikely recruitment by head coach Tad Boyle to the relationships he developed with his teammates, coaching staff and Buffs fans, to the growth he experienced in his relationships with his own parents.
The last year was one of the most unprecedented and unimaginable for many across the globe, with Pac-12 student-athletes being no exception. From the pause of college sports in the midst of the 2020 Pac-12 Men’s Basketball Tournament through a season that culminated back where it all stopped - in Las Vegas for the 2021 Pac-12 Basketball Tournaments - Pac-12 Networks basketball analysts describe what it was like to watch and live through the past season.
“I think no matter what you go through in life, you have to always find the light,” says Pac-12 Networks analyst and former Bruin great Earl Watson. “And if you don’t find that light, there’s a lot of darkness around - it’s just before COVID, during COVID and after COVID. Find that light and that’ll always carry you to your next moment. I think that’s what our journey’s all about as players. I like to tell basketball players it’s like pushing the fast break. You embrace the fundamentals of life and basketball, you jump, stop and make that pass -- and the crowd goes wild,”
