Lacrosse Drops Saturday Match at Mercer

MACON, Ga. – The Utah lacrosse team dropped a 15-10 match to the Mercer Bears on Saturday at Five Star Stadium.
 
Utah drew first blood on the stick of Jared Andreala just 1:01 into the match as both teams exchanged goals to make it 3-3 at the end of 15 minutes. Mercer broke the tie at the 10:54 mark in the second frame but Joanthan Rose answered for the Utes not too long after, 4-4. However, a 3-0 run by the Bears saw Utah (2-5) go into the break trailing 7-4.
 
Mercer (3-5) tacked on another goal to make it a 4-0 run stemming from the second quarter but MJ McMahon dialed up back-to-back goals for Utah and brought the Utes within 8-6 with 10:31 left in the third. Mercer's Michael Quinn answered with back-to-back goals of his own and set the Utes back 10-6 before Sean Goldsmith sandwiched a man-up goal from Carson Moyer, his second of the game, to give the Bears a 12-7 lead through three quarters of play.
 
With the fourth quarter on deck, time was of the essence was ultimately Utah's nemesis as well. Utah got out early and fast top open the final frame of play, scoring consecutive goals within the first 20 seconds of play on goals from Josh Rose and Jordan Hyde. The back-and-forth game returned as Mercer went goal-for-goal with Utah and handed the Utes the 15-10 loss.
