No. 19 UCLA Sweeps Three Races Against No. 18 USC

MARINA DEL REY, Calif. – The No. 19-ranked UCLA women's rowing program swept a trio of races against crosstown rival and No. 18-ranked USC on Saturday morning on Ballona Creek.
 
The Bruins raced four boats in three races against the Women of Troy.
 
UCLA's varsity eight crew raced to a first-place finish against USC, clocking in with a final time of 6:28.40. The Women of Troy finished the V8+ race in 6:42.40.
 
The Bruins' second varsity eight crew bested USC by more than 15 seconds. UCLA crossed the finish line in 6:38.50, while USC registered a final time of 6:55.20. The Bruins' third varsity eight crew also competed in that race, finishing with a time of 6:59.30.
 
UCLA's varsity four crew posted a final racing time of 7:27.70, nearly five seconds ahead of USC (7:32.00).

"What a great day for our program," said head coach Amy Fuller Kearney. "I am so proud of these Bruin women. We have all been thorugh so much, and to see their hard work, their hours of individual training, their focus and their commitment pay off on the water against USC this morning makes me incredibly happy for them."
 
Saturday morning's sweep of UCLA marked the Bruins' first such sweep of their crosstown foe since UCLA established its varsity program in 2001-02.
 
UCLA will return to action in Henderson, Nev., on Saturday, April 10, competing at the Lake Las Vegas Invitational. Racing schedules and start times will be finalized during the week of the race.
