Offense Takes Flight In 14-7 Victory
TEMPE, Ariz. – The #6 Washington Husky offense put on a huge performance as the Huskies beat the #14 Arizona State Sun Devils 14-7. The Huskies were clicking on all cylinders: every Husky starter reached base at least once, with eight of the nine scoring runs. Six Huskies drove in runs, including four Huskies with multiple RBI.
The win moved Washington's record to 23-4 on the year. This game will not count in the Pac-12 standings unless Sunday's game is not played, leaving Washington's conference record at 2-2. The 14 runs were the most by the Huskies against a Pac-12 opponent since scoring 17 against Oregon State on May 4, 2015. Washington has scored in double digits seven times this season.
Baylee Klingler and Morganne Flores had perfect days at the plate, combining to go 3-for-3 with four walks, five runs, two home runs, and five RBI. Jadelyn Allchin and Kelley Lynch also homered, with Allchin's homer her first career grand slam. Jenn Cummings drove in two runs in her first collegiate start, giving her three RBI in her last four plate appearances.
Arizona State took an early lead, only for a seven-run third inning by the Huskies to erase that deficit in a big way. Washington would score in each of the final five innings to secure the win. Power and patience was a big part of Washington's approach: the Huskies drew eight walks and hit four home runs in the game. Washington drew five walks in the third and fourth inning alone to help build a big lead.
