Offense Takes Flight In 14-7 Victory

Mar 27, 2021

TEMPE, Ariz. – The #6 Washington Husky offense put on a huge performance as the Huskies beat the #14 Arizona State Sun Devils 14-7. The Huskies were clicking on all cylinders: every Husky starter reached base at least once, with eight of the nine scoring runs. Six Huskies drove in runs, including four Huskies with multiple RBI.

The win moved Washington's record to 23-4 on the year. This game will not count in the Pac-12 standings unless Sunday's game is not played, leaving Washington's conference record at 2-2. The 14 runs were the most by the Huskies against a Pac-12 opponent since scoring 17 against Oregon State on May 4, 2015. Washington has scored in double digits seven times this season.

Baylee Klingler and Morganne Flores had perfect days at the plate, combining to go 3-for-3 with four walks, five runs, two home runs, and five RBI. Jadelyn Allchin and Kelley Lynch also homered, with Allchin's homer her first career grand slam. Jenn Cummings drove in two runs in her first collegiate start, giving her three RBI in her last four plate appearances.

Arizona State took an early lead, only for a seven-run third inning by the Huskies to erase that deficit in a big way. Washington would score in each of the final five innings to secure the win. Power and patience was a big part of Washington's approach: the Huskies drew eight walks and hit four home runs in the game. Washington drew five walks in the third and fourth inning alone to help build a big lead.

  • Second Inning: Two singles in the inning got Arizona State on the board with a 1-0 lead.
  • Third Inning: The Huskies drew three walks and a hit by pitch to start the inning. Lynch and Huskey had RBI singles with the bases loaded, with an error by the shortstop allowing another run to score for a 3-1 lead. Allchin's first career grand slam put an exclamation on the big inning, making it 7-1. Arizona State would homer in the bottom half to make it 7-2.
  • Fourth Inning: The Huskies loaded the bases for the second straight inning, adding another run to the board on a Cummings sacrifice fly. Arizona State homered in the bottom half again, cutting the lead back to five runs at 8-3.
  • Fifth Inning: Homers abounded for both teams: the Huskies scored four runs in the top half on back-to-back jacks by Klingler and Flores, only for Arizona State to match that with two two-run homers of their own, making it 12-7.
  • Sixth Inning: After the first two Huskies reached safely in the inning, Klingler's foul out deep down the rightfield line brought in Washington's 13th run.
  • Seventh Inning: Lynch put an end to the scoring with a monster shot over the leftfield wall.

  • Allchin (3x5, 2 R, 2B, HR, 4 RBI) has 13 RBI in her last ten starts.
  • This was Allchin's second game of 4+ RBI this season.
  • Flores (2x2, 2 R, HR, 2 BB) moved into a tie with Ali Aguilar for sixth in UW history in RBI with her 210th.
  • Klingler (1x3, 3 R, HR, 3 RBI, 2 BB) has four extra-base hits in her last five games.
  • Klingler matched her career high with four RBI, her fourth four-RBI game as a Husky.
  • This was the tenth time this season the Huskies have hit multiple homers in a game.
  • The 14 runs were the most Washington has ever scored against Arizona State.

The series wraps up tomorrow at 12:00 pm. That game will be streamed free via the Arizona State live stream.
