USC Track & Field Wins 11 Events At The Aztec Invitational

George Gleason won the 5000m race with the fifth-fastest time in school history and USC won 11 events during the final day of the 42nd Annual Aztec Invitational today (March 27). Morgan Smalls was one of the busier Trojans winning the high jump, taking second in the triple jump and finishing third in the 100m.

  • George Gleason won the men's 5000m race with a meet-record time of 14:23.84, winning by nearly 33 seconds.  Gleason moved into fifth on USC's all-time 5000m list, after moving into USC's top 10 in the 1500m last week, his first competing as a Trojan.
  • USC's women's 4x100m relay team of Jan'Taijah Ford, Bailey Lear, Lanae-Tava Thomas and Nicole Yeargin got things started on the day for the Trojans by winning with a time of 44.07.
  • Anna Cockrell won the women's 100m hurdles with a time of 13.10 (-1.3) which tied the meet record.  Her time moves her into second on the descending order list entering this week behind only her teammate Jasmine Jones (13.01).
  • Tade Ojora won the men's 110m hurdles with a time of 14.42 (-1.5)
  • Rae-Anne Serville won the women's 400m with a time of 53.22, Chioma Okonkwo was fourth with a collegiate-best time of 55.74, Alyssa Brewer was eighth with a time of 57.57 and Abygail Paez was 10th with a PR of 57.81.
  • Morgan Smalls won the women's high jump with a clearance of 5-10.75 (1.80m) and Temi Ojora placed third with a clearance of 5-8.75 (1.75m). Smalls' jump moved her into a 10th-place tie on USC's all-time women's outdoor high jump list.
  • Jordan Scott won the men's triple jump with a best leap of 54-3.75/16.55m (+2.3w).
  • Cameron Samuel won the men's 400m hurdles race with a time of 50.20.  His time is second among athletes entering this week's action.
  • Temi Ojora won the women's triple jump with a wind-aided leap of 42-5.50/12.94m (+3.1w) and Smalls was second with a jump of 41-8.00/12.70 (+2.0).
  • Sam VanDorpe won the men's 800m race with a time of 1:49.76, Josh Ligas was seventh with a time of 1:53.60 and Jack Carter was eighth with a PR of 1:54.35
  • USC's women's "A" 4x400m relay team of Cockrell, Kyra Constantine, Bernard-Joseph and Yeargin won with a meet and stadium-record time of 3:34.89.  USC's "B" team of Brewer, Okonkwo, Paez and Jemima Russell posted a time of 3:48.86 to finish fifth.
  • The USC men's 4x400m relay team of Nick Ramey, Brian Herron, Samuel and Ashton Allen placed second with a time of 3:08.14.
  • The men's 4x100m relay team of Kenan Christon, Eric Allen Jr., Zach Shinnick and Davonte Burnett had a time of 39.26 to finish second.  It was the unit's best time since running 38.89 at the 2018 Dual Meet.
  • Kaelin Roberts was second in the women's 200m with a wind-aided time of 22.99 (+2.5w).  All six of the Trojans finished in the top eight out of 36 runners as Constatine placed third (23.25/+2.5w), Thomas was fourth (23.32/+2.5w), Yeargin was fifth (23.34/+2.5w), Ford was seventh (23.44/+0.6) and Lear was eighth (23.49/+2.5w).
  • Bernard-Joseph took second in the women's 400m hurdles with a time of 61.09.
  • Russell placed third in the women's 1500m race with a PR of 4:25.27, more than a four second improvement over her previous best.  Brooke Rodi was 21st with a PR of 5:01.76 and Julia Bounds was 22nd with a time of 5:02.93.
  • Smalls placed third in the women's 100m dash with a wind-aided time of 11.44 (+2.5w).
  • Allen Jr. had a PR of 10.33 (+2.0) to take third in the men's 100m dash , Daniel Robinson finished 10th with a time of 10.56 (+2.0) and Alexander Barnum finished 20th with a time of 1084 (+2.0).
  • Herron placed third in the men's 400m with a time of 47.54 and Ashton Allen was sixth with a time of 49.04.
  • Robinson took eighth in the men's 200m with a time of 21.42 (+1.5), Ramey finished 11th with a time of 21.60 (+0.1) and Barnum placed 26th with a time of 22.24 (+1.5).
  • Daly finished 10th in the women's 800m race with a time of 2:23.53.
  • John Dempsey took 18th in the men's 1500m race with a time of 4:11.92.
