Beavers Fall to Bears in Berkeley

BERKELEY, Calif. – No. 3 Oregon State out-shot California 25-9, but the Golden Bears took a 1-0 win Sunday evening in Berkeley, Calif.
 
Gloire Amanda led the Beavers with five shots, while Javier Armas recorded four shots, two of which were on goal.
 
Overall, OSU forced the Cal keeper to make five saves, and took 10 corner kicks.
 
The Beavers now move to 7-3 on the season, and 4-3 in Pac-12 play.
 
Oregon State forced a save on the first shot of the game, as Tsiki Ntsabeleng challenged the keeper less than six minutes into the match. Tyrone Mondi and Ntsabeleng each tallied a pair of shots in the game's opening half hour, as the Beavers out-shot the Golden Bears 8-2 through the first 30 minutes of action.
 
Gloire Amanda had three consecutive shots in the 40th minute, but the trio of chances failed to find the net. The sides headed to the break scoreless, as the Beavers out-shot Cal 13-5 in the opening 45 minutes.
 
California went in front 15 minutes into the second half when Juan Martinez found the net in the 59th. Oregon State nearly struck back less than a minute later, as Carlos Moliner forced a save.
 
Mouhameth Thiam and Joe Hafferty both took aim in the 70th minute, as the Beavers pressed forward in search of an equalizer. Javier Armas placed his 84th minute effort on target, but the Golden Bear keeper was again up to the task, as Oregon State continued to attack late on. OSU could not level the score as the Golden Bears took the victory.
 
The Beavers are back in action next Saturday at UCLA. That match will begin at 3 p.m. and will air live on Pac-12 Networks.
