Cougars Fall in Series-Finale at No. 16 Arizona State

PHOENIX (March 28, 2021) – Washington State dropped the series-finale to No. 16 Arizona State 9-0 at Phoenix Municipal Stadium Sunday afternoon.
 
The Cougars (12-8, 1-5 Pac-12) received hits from Jacob McKeon and Jack Smith. The Sun Devils improved to 15-5 overall and 4-2 in conference play after collecting 11 hits and received an impressive start from Justin Hall who worked into the seventh while striking out five.
 
KEY MOMENTS OF THE GAME
ASU took advantage of a Cougar miscue and a couple perfectly placed hits just out of the reach from WSU infielders to push four runs across in the opening frame. WSU used a couple singles to put two runners on in the second but ASU ended the threat with a strikeout and a fielder's choice groundout.
 
Cougar starting pitcher Dakota Hawkins was solid throughout the afternoon, striking out two while working into the sixth inning.
 
Arizona State pulled away with four runs on five hits in the sixth inning for an 8-0 advantage.
