Huskies Earn First Win At Pac-12 South Invite

TUCSON, Ariz. – Washington Beach Volleyball picked up its first win of the season today and continued to compete well against ranked opposition as the Pac-12 South Invitational finished up at Bear Down Beach in Tucson. The Dawgs started the day with a 5-0 sweep over Utah for their first dual win. The weekend wrapped up with a 4-1 loss to 18th-ranked Stanford, but Shayne McPherson and Chloe Loreen earned a win at the No. 1 position against the Cardinal.
 
In the morning match, the Dawgs quickly jumped on the Utes and swept without dropping a set. First wins of the season were earned by Natalie Robinson and Scarlett Dahl at the No. 2 spot, 21-13, 21-15, over Lee/Smalls, and Cassidy Schilling and Callie Weber at the No. 5 spot, 21-13, 21-11, over Liwanag/Stahle.
 
McPherson and Loreen swept at No. 1, Kyra Petersen and Ashley Shook were routine winners at No. 3, and Avie Niece and Hannah Yerex got a 21-19, 21-9 win at No. 4.
 
Against the 18th-ranked Cardinal, the Huskies were led again by McPherson and Loreen, who rolled to a 21-17, 21-12 win at the No. 1 spot over Ekstrom/Villapando. That wraps up a 3-1 weekend for the pair.
 
Stanford was able to get straight set wins at the two through five courts, the closest match being at No. 5, where Schilling and Weber dropped two 21-18 sets against Stanford's Sharp/Smith.
