Jaime Jaquez Jr. Named UCLA Student-Athlete of the Week

LOS ANGELES – Junior Jaime Jaquez Jr. from UCLA Men's Basketball has been selected the UCLA Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by Ready, earning honors for Mar. 23 - Mar. 29.
 
Jaquez Jr. averaged 13.5 points and 7.5 rebounds in the Bruins two wins last week in the NCAA Tournament. The sophomore from Camarillo, Calif., shot 41.7 percent from the field and was 5-for-6 at the free throw line to help UCLA secure its first trip to the Elite Eight since 2008. Jaquez Jr. had 17 points and eight rebounds in the Bruins' 88-78 overtime win against Alabama on Sunday evening. In the team's 67-47 win against Abilene Christian on Monday, March 22, he had 10 points, seven rebounds and two blocked shots. Through UCLA's four NCAA Tournament contests, he has averaged 16.8 points and 6.8 rebounds per game.

This is the second Student-Athlete of the Week honor for Jaquez and the third of his career. He secured Department weekly honors earlier this season after putting up a career-high 25 points in the Bruins' win over Arizona on Feb. 18.
