No-Hitter Earns Kliethermes Weekly Honors
SAN FRANCISCO – Oregon right-handed pitcher Makenna Kliethermes was named both the Pac-12 Pitcher and Freshman of the Week Tuesday after throwing a no-hitter with 15 strikeouts on Friday against Loyola Marymount.
Kliethermes tossed the 34th no-hitter in program history on Friday against the Lions and is just the fourth pitcher in program history to strike out at least 15 in a no-hitter. Her 15 strikeouts are also tied for the eighth-most in any game in program history while it was the first seven-inning no-hitter by an Oregon player since Jordan Dail threw one on March 27, 2019.
The second-year freshman was untouchable from the get-go on Friday, striking out the first six batters of the game while recording nine of her first 12 outs via strikeout. She struck out the side four times throughout the game, highlighted by three consecutive swinging strikeouts in the seventh inning to put an exclamation point on the no-no. The only baserunners she allowed came on a hit by pitch in the third inning and a walk in the fourth.

Kliethermes has been dominant in the circle of late, picking up a win in five straight appearances while striking out 40 in just 20.1 innings over that stretch. She is currently fifth in the nation and second in the conference with 12.83 strikeouts per seven innings. The Wardsville, Mo. native is also tied for fifth in the Pac-12 with a 1.17 ERA and is the only pitcher in the league to have thrown at least 30 innings while giving up less than 20 hits.
The Ducks have dominated the conference's weekly freshman award, with three different players combining to win it four times in the first seven weeks of the season after Alyssa Brito earned the honor twice and Hanna Delgado won it once. Oregon is also the only team in the conference to have two different players win pitcher of the week honors, as Kliethermes joins Brooke Yanez.
