All-Around Contributions Lead To 8-0 Win

Apr 1, 2021

SEATTLE – The #6 Washington Huskies scored four batters into the game and took home an 8-0 run-rule victory over the California Golden Bears in the series opener. Madison Huskey, Morganne Flores, and Baylee Klingler all homered, with Klingler's homer ending the game.

Washington is 25-4 overall and 4-2 in Pac-12 after tonight's win. The win was Washington's ninth in a row over Cal. Washington has won the opening game of each of its last five Pac-12 home series, stretching back to March of 2019.

Washington scored in four of five innings, putting 16 runners on base in the game. Klingler had two runs and three RBI in the game, with Flores and Huskey each homering and driving in two runs as well. Noelle Hee was perfect at the plate for the second game in a row, going 1-for-1 with a double and two HBPs.

Gabbie Plain started strong with a 1-2-3 first and stayed that way all game long. Plain did not allow a hit until the fourth inning, retiring seven straight after a walk in the second inning before Cal managed a single. Only two batters reached scoring position in the game, with no Cal runner advancing to third base all night long. Plain would strike out five in her sixth complete-game shutout of 2021.

  • First Inning: On the first pitch she saw, Flores ripped her 54th career home run well over the leftfield wall toward Lake Washington for a 2-0 lead.
  • Second Inning: With the bases loaded, Klingler added to the lead, knocking a sac fly to deep center that nearly cleared the fence but still made it 3-0.
  • Third Inning: Washington loaded the bases up once again, this time with no outs, before chasing Cal's starter from the game as a fielding error made it 4-0. Another sacrifice fly, this time from Jadelyn Allchin, made it 5-0 through three.
  • Fifth Inning: Homers by Huskey and Klingler ended the game by run rule, making it an 8-0 Husky victory.

  • Flores (1x3, HR, 2 RBI) has homered in three consecutive games.
  • Flores tied Kylee Lahners for fourth in Husky history with her 54th career home run.
  • In her last ten games, Flores is hitting .452 with seven extra-base hits and 15 RBI.
  • Hee (1x1, R, 2B, 2 HBP) has reached safely in six consecutive plate appearances.
  • Plain (5.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 K) became the seventh Husky ever with 700 career strikeouts.
  • Plain tied Taran Alvelo for third in Husky history with her 28th career shutout.
  • Sami Reynolds (1x2) has hits in eight of her last nine games.
  • Klingler (2x3, 2 R, HR, 3 RBI) is hitting .619 with nine runs and ten RBI in seven home games.
