Four Beavers On MLB Opening-Day Rosters

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Four Oregon State Beavers will start the 2021 season on Major League Baseball Opening Day rosters.
 
Left-handed pitcher Matt Boyd (Detroit Tigers), outfielder Michael Conforto (New York Mets), infielder Nick Madrigal (Chicago White Sox) and right-handed pitcher Drew Rasmussen (Milwaukee Brewers) will open the 2021 season today. A fifth, left-handed pitcher Jace Fry, opens the season on the injured list with the White Sox.
 
Boyd will make the opening day start for the Tigers in their visit to Cleveland. The lefty has pitched in 134 games over six seasons, and has 34 wins.
 
Conforto is in his seventh season with the Mets. The Washington native has played in 632 career games for New York, and is batting .259 with 118 home runs and 341 runs batted in.
 
Madrigal made his MLB debut last season, and played in 29 games for the White Sox in 2020. He batted .340 with three doubles and 11 RBI.
 
Rasmussen also made his MLB debut last season, and appeared in 12 games for the Brewers, all in relief. He struck out 21 in 15 1/3 innings and picked up his first career win on September 18 against Kansas City.
