No. 6 Washington Homers Past Cal, 8-0
SEATTLE - Three home runs off the bat of the No. 6 Washington softball team guided the Huskies past Cal, 8-0, in five innings in the Pac-12 series opener Thursday night from Husky Softball Stadium.
The Golden Bears fell to 12-8, 1-3 on the year.
Washington got on the board in the bottom of the first with a two-out, two-run home run.
Sacrifice flies in the bottom of the second and the third helped Washington increase its lead to 5-0 after three. Two more Husky roundtrippers in the bottom of the fifth ended the contest.
Alexis Bishop smacked Cal's first hit of the day with a two-out single in the fourth inning. Mikalya Coelho notched Cal's lone extra base hit of the day with a double to lead off the top of the fifth.
Haylei Archer took the loss, falling to 5-2 on the year. She went two-plus innings, allowing five earned runs with four walks, four hits and she struck out two. Chloe Romero entered the game in relief of Archer in the third inning. Romero allowed three earned runs on five hits with one strikeout.
The Bears and Huskies continue their series tomorrow with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
