Into The Record Books
MORAGA, Calif. – No. 12 Stanford beach volleyball tied the school record with its 11th-straight victory on Thursday night over Saint Mary's, 3-2. The 2018 squad also won 11 straight matches.
The winning streak began on March 6 with a doubleheader sweep of UC Davis and Saint Mary's. The Cardinal then went on the road for eight matches last week, winning them all, including victories over No. 6 Hawai'i, No. 8 Grand Canyon and No. 14 Arizona. Stanford went 4-0 in last weekend's Pac-12 South Invitational in Tucson.
In tonight's match, the Cardinal took an early 1-0 lead with a two-set win at No. 5. Stanford then went up 2-1 with a three-set win at No. 4, despite losing at No. 3. The freshman duo of Xolani Hodel and Kate Reilly clinched the match at No. 2, winning 21-9 and 21-17 for their 11th-straight win as a pair.
The Cardinal is now 12-3 on the season and is set to host No. 5 Cal Poly and No. 9 Cal on Saturday.
