SEATTLE - Washington makes its second trip in as many weeks to Southern California, this time for two big Pac-12 clashes, as the Huskies will line up against 16th-ranked USC and 36th-ranked UCLA. The Huskies (9-7, 0-3 Pac-12) spent their spring break in SoCal, going 2-1 last week with 4-3 road wins at UC Santa Barbara and San Diego State.
Friday's first stop will be USC's Marks Stadium for a 2 p.m. first serve. The Trojans are 14-5 on the season and 2-1 in Pac-12 play, coming off a split in the desert last week, where they fell 4-3 to No. 19 Arizona but bounced back with a 6-1 win over No. 17 Arizona State. Individual rankings have three Trojans ranked in singles: No. 26 Daniel Cukierman, No. 28 Riley Smith, and No.87 Stefan Dostanic. USC also boasts the No. 2 doubles team nationally, Cukierman and Smith. Cukierman was the No. 1 ranked singles player in 2020 when the season was suspended and USC was No. 1 at the time.
Saturday at the Los Angeles Tennis Center, the Huskies face the Bruins at 1 p.m. The Bruins are 8-3 and 2-1 in Pac-12 play and will host Oregon on Friday before taking on the Huskies. Similar to their crosstown rivals, the Bruins lost at Arizona last week but had a win over the Sun Devils. Senior Keegan Smith leads the Bruins with an 8-2 mark at No. 1 singles. He was ranked 10th in the preseason poll but is currently 48th overall. Smith was one half of the 2019 NCAA Doubles Champions. Drew Baird is ranked 81st in singles and Govind Nanda is No. 116. Smith and Bryce Pereira are currently 75th in doubles.
Sophomore Clement Chidekh moved up 10 spots to a career-best No. 73 in this week's latest ITA singles poll, in spite of going 1-2 last week. His one win was over 52nd-ranked Adrian Oetzbach of Pepperdine. Ewen Lumsden, Jack Davis, Han-Chih Lin, and Adam Torocsik earned the four singles wins against both the Gauchos and the Aztecs last week.
