Track & Field Off to Hayward Premiere
SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah track & field heads to Eugene, Ore., this weekend for the Hayward Premiere and will partake in the very first meet inside the newly renovated Hayward Field this weekend.
The two-day event starts on Friday, April 2, and will end on Saturday, April 3. In addition, a select handful of distance runners will also be competing Saturday evening at Titan Stadium in the NW Distance Jamboree hosted by Portland State.

Utah's distance crew will get their first real run on the track this weekend as they kick things off on Friday at Hayward Field. In addition, Bella Williams will be making her season-debut in the 10k as well. On Saturday, Kennedy Powell and Natalie Platil will make their outdoor season debut, running in the 1500m at the NW Distance Jamboree while Karli Branch and Sara Leonard compete in the 5k.
Brooklyn James will once again do double-duty this weekend competing with the track & field team first before meeting up with the women's soccer team up the road on Sunday, April 3, when the Utes take on Oregon State.
LAST TIME OUT
Freshman Bailey Kealamakia continues to progress, setting a new PR for the second-straight week at the Texas Relays with a time of 1:03.55 in the 400m hurdles. Ruby Jane Mathewson also set a new PR in that race, posting a time of 1:02.28. Utah's 4x400m team of Kelise Davis, Lauren O'Banion, Oneillia Fuller and Jackie Martin clocked the best time (3:42.01) of the season so far for the Utes despite a long 45-minute delay. Whitney Hessler wrapped up the weekend with a 2:09.04 finish in the 800m – which was the eighth-best time in the race.
Utah will return home for the much anticipated Utah Classic next Friday-Saturday, April 9-10, at the McCarthy Family Track & Field Complex.
