Beavers Propelled Past Buffs by Strong Second Half

Apr 2, 2021

CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State women's soccer team was propelled past Colorado with a 2-0 win on Friday night on Paul Lorenz Field.
"We were all over them from the beginning," said head coach Matt Kagan. "I am super proud of the team. We put together a 90-minute performance. It is two in a row and we are scoring some goals. I am proud of Mia for making a play in the box. I thought we were great in both boxes which is how you have to win Pac-12 games. We will enjoy it tonight and get back at it on Sunday."
From the get-go, it was an Oregon State controlled game. The Beavers put some early pressure on the CU defense in the 10th minute off a corner kick that resulted in two OSU shots, ultimately being fought off by the Buffs.
After the OSU defense held strong for the first 15 minutes of the game, Colorado earned its first shot in the 16th minute that was blocked by the Beavers.
In the 31st minute, the Buffs earned a free kick that led to a Bridgette Skiba save to keep the game scoreless.
A late offensive push from the Oregon State in the 39th minute put CU back on their heels as Laura Galceran fired a shot towards the goal that got blocked. The teams ended the first half with 0-0 tie.
It remained all Beavers in the second half as Abby Schwartz drove towards the goal then fired it at the keeper in the 58th minute which rebounded straight to Mylene Gorzynski for the first goal of the game and first of the season for Gorzynski.
Just seven minutes later, Kaillen Fried found the back of the net to give an insurance goal to OSU off an assist from Nicole Nickerson and Brianna McReynolds.
There was a late surge from Colorado as it looked to get on the scoreboard with a pair of shots in the 75th and 78th minutes, but Oregon State held strong to fend off the attack.
The Beavers held on to get the 2-0 victory.
Next up: Oregon State returns to Paul Lorenz Field at 1 pm (PT) on Sunday to host Utah for Senior Day.
