Huskies Fall To USC On The Road

LOS ANGELES – The #19 Washington Huskies fell to the USC Trojans Friday night, taking a 5-0 road defeat. The loss ends Washington's three-game win streak. Washington had not allowed more than one goal in any game before today.

The Huskies are 7-2-2 overall and 3-2-2 in conference after today's loss. Washington has one more game to play this weekend, taking on #5 UCLA on the road on Sunday.

It was a scoreless game at the half, with Washington managing four shots in the first 45 minutes of play. Sianna Siemonsma started the game with a near goal: her header off Olivia Van der Jagt's cross went hard on goal but was caught by the keeper.

Ruby Hellstrom had a particularly dangerous chance in the 21st minute with a shot from the top corner of the box. It appeared to be headed for the inside of the far post, only for USC's keeper to push it just wide.

  • 53' | USC scored on a two-player breakaway to take the lead.
  • 56' | Penelope Hocking's second goal for USC came via a penalty kick slotted toward the left post.
  • 61' | Hocking finish the hat trick with a long-range shot just over the fingertips of Sekany, who made a valiant effort but couldn't quite brush the ball off course.
  • 64' | USC managed to just avoid the Washington defense, then fire from the middle of the box to make it 4-0.
  • 85' | USC's final goal can with just five minutes left in the game to make the final margin 5-0.

 

 NOTES
  • Kala McDaniel made her second start as a Husky and first on defense.
  • Siemonsma has six shots in her last three games, with four on goal.
  • Summer Yates' three-game point streak came to a close. She had a goal and three assists during that streak.
