USC Women’s Tennis Triumphant Over Arizona

TUCSON, Ariz.--The No. 39 USC women's tennis team defeated Arizona 6-1 today (Apr. 2) in Tucson, Ariz. The Women of Troy now hold a 10-6 overall record and a 4-2 Pac-12 record for the 2021 season. 
 
The Trojans struck first in doubles as the duo of Cheong/Dvorak beat Arizona's Amos /Zandberg 6-3 on court three. Up next, the Trojan tandem of Cayetano/Kulikov defeated Wildcat pair Iglupas/Lukic 6-3 on court one to clinch the doubles point for Troy. Although USC won the doubles point, court two was played out, where Ewing/McKee beat Arizona's Heynemans/Wilkins 7-5. 
 
The Trojans were feeling strong after a full sweep in doubles and took that confidence to the singles portion of the match. USC sophomore No. 123 Eryn Cayetano beat Arizona's Talya Zandberg 6-1, 6-3 on court two to notch another point for Troy. On court six, Trojan redshirt senior Clare McKee defeated Wildcat Khim Iglupas 6-2, 6-2 to extend USC's lead to 3-0.
 
Redshirt senior Summer Dvorak beat Arizona's Gitte Heynemans 6-3, 6-2 on court five to clinch the match for the Women of Troy. This is Dvorak's third clinch of the 2021 season. 
 
The remaining courts were played out even though the match was clinched. 
 
On court three, Wildcat Kayla Wilkins defeated USC freshman No. 69 Naomi Cheong 6-3, 6-4 to score Arizona's first point of the match. 
 
Junior Salma Ewing responded with another win for Troy with her 6-2, 7-5 victory over Arizona's Jelena Lukic on court one. Junior Danielle Willson wrapped up the match for USC with her 6-0, 2-6, 1-0, (10-4) win over Wildcat Abby Amos on court four to make the final score 6-1. 
 
Tomorrow (Apr. 3), USC will take on Arizona State at 12 p.m. PT in Tempe, Ariz.
