No. 4 UCLA Beats No. 3 LSU Twice at Mapes Beach

LOS ANGELES -- No. 4 UCLA (13-1) posted back-to-back dual victories over No. 3 LSU (16-4) on Saturday at Mapes Beach. The Bruins opened the day with a 4-1 win in the morning and came back to post a 3-2 victory over the Tigers in the afternoon dual. With the wins, the Bruins improved to 10-2 all-time against LSU.

In the opening dual, Jacqueline Quade and Megan Muret got the Bruins on the board first with a straight-set win on court four over LSU's Jess Lansman and Sydney Moore, 21-14, 21-12.

The Bruins went up 2-0 after Abby Van Winkle and Lea Monkhouse turned in a straight-set win on court two over LSU's Claire Coppola and Kelli Greene-Agnew, 21-17, 21-17.

Rileigh Powers and Jaden Whitmarsh clinched the dual win on court five when they defeated LSU's Olivia Ordonez and Kahlee York in a three-set thriller, 21-18, 17-21, 15-10.

Court four's Devon Newberry and Lindsey Sparks made it 4-0 with a three-set win over the Tigers' Toni Rodriguez and Ashlyn Rasnick-Pope, 25-23, 19-21, 15-11.

The Tigers picked up their lone point in the dual when Taryn Kloth and Kristen Nuss shook off 12 match points on court one by UCLA's Lexy Denaburg and Savvy Simo, 21-14, 23-25, 27-25.

In exhibition play, UCLA's Cami Sanchez and Hannah Phair defeated Grace Seits and Reilly Allred in straight sets, 21-18, 21-16.

In the second dual, the Bruins again struck first with Quade and Muret earning a 21-18, 21-14 win over LSU's Lansman and Moore on court four.

LSU tied the dual at 1-1 with a 21-16, 22-20 win on court two by Coppola and Greene-Agnew over Van Winkle and Monkhouse

The Tigers took a 2-1 lead after court one's Kloth and Nuss defeated the Bruins' Denaburg and Simo, 24-22, 21-14

Newberry and Sparks tied the dual at 2-2 with a hard-fought three-set win on court three over Rodriguez and Rasnick-Pope, 13-21, 21-16, 15-12.

It all came down to court five where Powers and Whitmarsh of UCLA defeated Ordonez and York, 21-19, 12-21, 15-13.

In exhibition action, Sanchez and Phair defeated Lara Boos and Ellie Shank, 21-16, 21-18.

The Bruins return to action tomorrow when they host No. 2 Florida State in a doubleheader with the first dual starting at 10:00 a.m. PT and second beginning at 1:30 p.m. PT.
