USC's Allisen Corpuz Ties For 13th At Augusta National Women's Amateur
Senior Allisen Corpuz carded her third straight 74 and completed her second Augusta National Women's Amateur tied for 13th - four spots better than her 2019 debut - while sophomore Alexa Melton tied for 28th following a final round played at storied Augusta National on Saturday (April 3).
Corpuz, who tied for 17th two years ago, finished at 6-over 222 (74-74-74), going 1-over on both nines today at Augusta. She connected on three birdies today - on 2, 9 and 13 - birdieing the final hole of Amen Corner.
"Playing at Augusta is such an awesome opportunity," Corpuz said. "It's a beautiful course with tons of history and to be able to play it is an honor. It was so great to see the support for women's golf and even though it played tough, it was still a fun week."
Melton, who qualified in 2019 for the tournament but had to bow out due to injury, finished at 14-over 230 (76-74-80). She birdied twice on her back 9 following a slow start to her final round.
"I'm just grateful for the opportunity and it was such a great experience," Melton said. "It was something you can't replicate."
Tsubasa Kajitani used a par on the first playoff hole to win the title after finishing tied with Emilia Migliaccio at 1-over.
Corpuz and Melton were among an NCAA-high six Trojans who competed this week at Augusta. Junior Malia Nam (74-79) and senior Amelia Garvey (76-77) tied for 39th at 9-over 153 over the first two rounds. Freshman Brianna Navarrosa tied for 60th at 12-over 156 (77-79) and senior Alyaa Abdulghany tied for 74th at 17-over 161 (83-78).
"The golf program has done some incredible things over the past couple decades, but having six players qualify for this field is right up at the top of the list," USC Coach Justin Silverstein said. "Our players did a great job representing USC this week and we couldn't be more proud of them.
"Allisen continued her incredible play and she should be very proud of her performance this week. Alexa had a great week with (Assistant Coach) Katie Mitchell on the bag and we are so pleased with the improvements she has made to her game."
USC completes the regular season April 5-7 at the Silverado Showdown in Napa, Calif.
"We are looking forward to heading straight to Napa from Augusta to complete in our next event," Silverstein said.
