Bruins Head to Arizona for Cowboy Classic

CHANDLER, Ariz. - After a week off from the course following a two-tournament stint the prior week, the Bruins are in Arizona this week for the Wyoming Cowboy Classic. The two-day, 54-hole tournament will be played at the Whirlwind Golf Club - Cattail Course (par 72, 7,334 yards) on Monday and Tuesday.

The starting fivesome for the Bruins will be seniors Devon Bling and Eddy Lai, juniors Kengo Aoshima and Bryan Wiyang Teoh and sophomore Mason Greene. Monday's play will be 36 holes and a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m., with Greene starting on the 14th hole and the other four beginning on the 15th. Live scoring will be available here.

Along with the Bruins and host Wyoming, the 23-team field consists of Air Force, Cal Poly, Cal State Fullerton, Colorado, Grand Canyon, Idaho, Loyola Marymount, Northern Colorado, Oregon, San Diego, San Diego State, Southern Utah, Stanford, TCU, UC Davis, UC Irvine, UC Santa Barbara, UNLV, Utah State, Utah Valley and Weber State.

After winning the Lamkin San Diego Classic (March 8-10, +4, 868), the Bruins were eighth at the Duck Invitational (March 22-23, +42, 894) to start their two-event schedule and 16th at The Goodwin (March 25-27, +25, 865). UCLA was also 24th at The Prestige (Feb. 15-17, +44, 896) and tied for eighth at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate (Feb. 19-21, +8, 872).

Bling won for the third time in his collegiate career at the Lamkin (-4, 212), opening with a 4-under 68 and adding a 3-under 69 in round two. He has been under par in five of his 15 rounds, including a 3-under 69 to open the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate (-7, 209) and a closing 4-under 68, as he placed solo third. Bling was also tied for 12th at The Prestige (+1, 214), tied for 18th at the Duck Invitational (+8, 221) and tied for 46th at The Goodwin (+6, 216).

Lai was the top Bruin at The Goodwin (T-24, +2, 212), which included a pair of even-par 70s. He also tied for 17th at the Lamkin San Diego Classic (+3, 219) and tied for 47th at the Duck Invitational (+15, 228). Lai's best round of the season was a 4-under 68 in round two at the Lamkin.

Teoh was the top Bruin at the Duck Invitational (+5, 218), tying for 11th. He also tied for eighth at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate (-3, 213), opening with a 4-under 68 and closing with a 1-under 71. Teoh tied for 17th at the Lamkin San Diego Classic (+3, 219), opening with a 2-under 70. 

Aoshima made his Bruin debut at The Goodwin, tying for 68th (+10, 220), including a 1-over 71 in round two. Greene's best finish was a T-23 at the Lamkin San Diego Classic (+5, 221), where he closed with a 2-under 70.
