Bruins in Napa for Final Regular-Season Tournament
NAPA, Calif. - The Bruins take part in their final regular-season tournament this week, the Silverado Showdown at the Silverado Resort. The three-day, 54-hole event will take place Monday through Wednesday at the par-72, 6,192-yard layout.
The starting fivesome for UCLA will be junior Phoebe Yue and sophomores Emilie Paltrinieri, Emma Spitz, Annabel Wilson and Yuki Yoshihara. Junior Simar Singh will be playing as an individual. The round one start time for the Bruins on Monday will be at 8:45 a.m. off the 10th tee in the order of Yue, Yoshihara, Spitz, Paltrinieri and Wilson. Singh will begin at 8:27 a.m. off hole No. 10. Joining the Bruins in the 14-team field are Arizona State, California, Colorado, Iowa State, Northwestern, Oregon, Oregon State, San Diego State, San Jose State, UNLV, USC, Washington and Washington State.
Wilson is coming off a career-best finish at the PING/ASU Invitational (March 26-28), where she tied for second (-4, 212) with rounds of 70, 72 and 70. The 70s were her second and third under-par rounds of the season, as she had a 2-under 70 to open The Match in the Desert (Jan. 24-25), where she tied for seventh (+4, 148). Wilson also had Top 20 finishes at the Sun Devil Winter Classic (Feb. 15-17, T-11, +3, 219) and the Lamkin Invitational (Feb. 8-9, 17th, +12, 228).
Paltrinieri tied for 17th (+1, 217) at the PING/ASU Invitational, including a 1-under 71 in round one and a two-under 70 in round two. That also gave her three under-par rounds on the season after opening with a 2-under 70 at The Match in the Desert (T-7, +4, 148). Paltrinieri, who is coming back from Georgia after finishing 27th at the Augusta National Women's Amateur (+12, 228) last week, tied for 10th at the Lamkin (+9, 225) and tied for 19th at the Sun Devil Classic (+6, 222).
Spitz tied for third at the Augusta National Women's Amateur (+2, 218), including a final-round, 1-under 71 at the Augusta National Golf Club, continuing her outstanding play in 2021. She was second at the Sun Devil Winter Classic (-6, 210), tied for second at the Lamkin Invitational (-1, 215), tied for third at The Match in the Desert (E, 144) and fourth at the Bruin Wave Invitational (+7, 223) in her first four tournaments. Spitz has been under par in seven of her 14 rounds, including a season-low, 3-under 69 in round one.
Yoshihara is making her third start in a row for the Bruins after tying for 12th at the Bruin Wave Invitational (March 1-3, +16, 232) and tying for 64th at the PING/ASU Invitational (+13, 229). Yue will be making her fourth start with the scoring fivesome, with her best round being a 1-over 73 to open The Match in the Desert. Singh is playing in her fifth tournament, with a season-low round of 1-over 73 in the second round of the Sun Devil Winter Classic.
The Bruins were second at The Match in the Desert (+15, 591), tied for second at the Lamkin Invitational (+40, 904), fifth at the Sun Devil Winter Classic (+23, 887), sixth at the Bruin Wave Invitational (+75, 939) and 11th at the PING/ASU Invitational (+18, 882).
