Strong Back Nine Moves Cats Up Final Standings
AUGUSTA, Ga. – Shaving seven strokes from their second-round score, No. 14 Arizona Men's Golf moved up the leaderboards to finish in fifth place at 8-under par at the Augusta Hawkins Award Invite. The Wildcats ended their two days in Georgia ahead of No. 6 Arizona State and No. 24 USF as well as eight other programs in the field.
"We had a strong back nine, and I was proud of the team's composure this week," said head coach Jim Anderson. "We didn't play as well as we can with mistakes to clean up, but it was good to hang tough at a new venue and move up the board on the final day."
Brad Reeves paced the Wildcats throughout the event as Arizona's top finisher at 5-under par, good for a 12th place finish. Teammates Trevor Werbylo and Chase Sienkiewicz joined Reeves in the top 25 with final scores of 2-under and 1-under respectively.
The entire five-man lineup sank 11 birdies on the back nine in Sunday's third and final round. The Wildcats finished the tournament as the number two scoring team on par 5's at 24-under par.
The Wildcats return to action at the Western Intercollegiate, hosted by San Jose State University, on Monday, April 12.
