Allisen Corpuz, Alyaa Abdulghany Lead USC Into 3rd After Silverado Showdown 1st Round

Allisen Corpuz continued her strong spring with a 2-under 70 opening effort while senior Alyaa Abdulghany carded a 72 to lead No. 7 USC in the first round of the Silverado Showdown at the Silverado Resort and Spa on Monday (April 5) in Napa, Calif.

USC, competing for its fourth win in its sixth and final regular-season event, posted a combined 3-over 291, tied for third and three strokes back of first-place UCLA (par). The Trojans made up five strokes over the final stretch, including going a combined 5-under on the par 5 16th.

Corpuz, with two wins among five top 4 finishes to start the season, is tied for third and three off the lead after her first round. It marked her team-best 12th-round under par this year.

Abdulghany registered her eighth round of par or better this season with her 72 and is tied for ninth, sinking birdies on 1 and 10. She is after her fourth top 10 this season and sixth in her last eight starts.

Senior Amelia Garvey is tied for 13th at 1-over. She went out at 1-over and was 2-over before finishing with a bit of drama, netting an eagle on 16, a double on 17 and closing with a birdie on 18. She is looking to extend her streak of top 16 finishes to seven.

Junior Malia Nam and sophomore Alexa Melton are tied for 40th at 4-over 76. Both were 5-over going out and 1-under coming in with birdies on 16 to get into the red on their back nines.

Junior Katherine Muzi, playing individually, is tied for 31st at 3-over 75. She had four birdies today, two on her even back nine.
