Alyssa Denham Named Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week
TUCSON, Ariz. -- Arizona softball senior pitcher Alyssa Denham has been named the Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week, announced on Tuesday by the conference. It is Denham's second Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week honor in her career and the sixth weekly conference honor by an Arizona player this season.
Denham went 2-0 with two shutouts at Stanford, including her third career no-hitter in game 1 of the series. In two complete games and 12 innings, she posted a 0.00 ERA and held Stanford hitters to just a .098 average.
In game 1 on Thursday, Denham flirted with perfection, pitching Arizona's 95th no-hitter in school history. She did not walk or hit a batter -- both Stanford base runners came via a pair of UA errors.
On Saturday in game 4 of the series, Denham followed up her no-no with another shutout, holding Stanford to four hits -- all singles -- while fanning three and walking on. The shutout completed the four-game sweep in Palo Alto for the Wildcats.
On the season, the senior is 11-4 with a 1.52 ERA and has held opponents to a .195 average.
Denham joins weeks 2 and 8 Pac-12 Player of the Week Alyssa Palomino-Cardoza, week 3 Pac-12 Player and Freshman of the Week Carlie Scupin and week 5 Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week Mariah Lopez as Wildcats to win Pac-12 weekly awards this season.
Denham and the Wildcats return home for their Pac-12 bye week this week, hosting New Mexico State and the Mexican Olympic Team in the Bear Down Fiesta, April 9-10.
