Hargrove Qualifies for NCAA Championships on Floor

Apr 5, 2021

TUCSON, Ariz. — Arizona Gymnastics standout sophomore Malia Hargrove has qualified for the 2021 National Collegiate Women's Gymnastics Championships as an individual competitor on floor.

Hargrove will continue her season at the NCAA Championships in Forth Worth, Texas next week, April 16-17. She is the first GymCat to make it to the NCAA Championships as an individual qualifier since Lexi Mills competed on beam following the 2016 season.

"This is an incredible opportunity for Malia. She is an extremely hard worker and had an awesome performance at regionals on floor," head coach John Court said. "The goal is always to end a season at the Championships and she will represent our program and the University of Arizona with pride."

The Sparks, Nevada native was a regular in the GymCats rotations on floor, vault, and bars throughout the entirety of the 2021 season. She posted a 9.8 or better seven times on floor this year and posted a 9.9 three times, including at the NCAA Regional Semifinal in Salt Lake last week.

Hargrove was one of four individual qualifiers on floor, joined by NC State's Emily Shepard, Missouri's Hannah McCrary, and BYU's Abbey Miner Alder. She will compete in the second session of next week's NCAA Championships and rotate with Alabama.
