Baseball Wins Midweek Battle with Dixie State, 16-3

ST GEORGE – The Utah baseball team won its second game in a row with a 16-3 midweek victory over Dixie State on the road.
 
Christopher Rowan, Jr. continued using his power as he smashed two home runs while totaling four RBI and scoring three runs. It's the first game with a Ute having multiple home runs since Zack Moeller had two home runs against UNLV in 2019.
 
The Utes scored early and often plating four in the second, two in the third, fifth and sixth, along with three runs in the seventh and eighth to total their season high 16 runs against the Trailblazers.
 
Rowan was a big part of the offensive damage going 3-5 with two home runs. He had four RBI and scored three runs to have a part in seven of the 16 runs. Matt Richardson went 3-3 with two walks. He scored two runs and had three RBI. Jayden Kiernan, Kai Roberts, Brock Rudy and Shea Kramer all had two hits.
 
Overall, Utah totaled 18 hits in the game which was also a season high.
 
Utah's pitchers held Dixie State in check as well striking out 14 batters. The Utes used four pitchers in the game with Randon Hostert getting the start. Hostert went 3.0 innings striking out five batters. Matthew Sox pitched 3.0 innings, Dustyn Schramm pitched 2.0 and Zac McCleve finished things out in the ninth.
 
Sox struck out four and McCleve struck out the side in the ninth. Sox earned the win and moved his record to 3-0 on the season.
 
The win moves Utah's record to 7-15 on the season and is the team's second in a row.
 
The Utes will jump back into conference play this weekend as they host Washington State at Smith's Ballpark in a three-game series starting on Friday at 6 p.m.
