Apr 9, 2021

EUGENE, Ore. – Kevin Abel allowed two hits and a run in six innings and Andy Armstrong tallied his 14th multiple-hit effort of the season but Oregon State lost the opener of a three-game series at Oregon, 4-1, Friday night at PK Park.
Abel and Oregon left-handed pitcher Robert Ahlstrom dueled. Abel struck out eight while Ahlstrom held the Beavers to five hits and a run with nine strikeouts in seven innings. Neither figured in the decision.
Armstrong finished with a 2-for-3 night, doubling in the fourth and singling in the sixth.
The Beavers (21-8 overall, 7-3 Pac-12 Conference) tied the game at one in the eighth thanks to an inning-opening triple by Jacob Melton and sacrifice fly by Ryan Ober. Oregon (17-7, 4-3), however, took the lead back in the bottom half of the inning thanks to a bases-loaded walk, a hit by pitch and then another walk.
The Ducks opened the game's scoring on a solo home run by Gabe Matthews in the fifth.
Chase Watkins allowed two hits and three runs in 1/3 of an inning in the eighth. He took the loss to drop to 0-1 this season.
Andrew Mosiello picked up the win for Oregon after getting the final three outs of the eighth. He is 2-1 this season.
